Hello, I’m Chiara Ferrante

About me

Currently, I´m working as a Research Associate at the Fraunhofer ISI in Karlsruhe. My research focuses mainly on innovation economics, knowledge and technology transfer between industry and university and digital innovation. Previously, in 2022 I workes as a Postdoctoral researcher at the Spatial Dynamics Lab, University College Dublin. I worked with Prof. D.F. Kogler, under the TechEvo project, on smart specialization strategies in European regions and on the evolution of scientific knowledge in China.

I obtained my PhD in Economic Geography at Sapienza University of Rome, with a thesis entitled “Electoral geography and political transformations. The rise of populism and its determinants”, supervised by Dr. Augusto Cerqua, from the University of Rome and Dr. Nicola Pontarollo, from the University of Brescia.

My research interests on innovation economics intertwine with a wide range of topics, such as the role of institutions, the evolution of political preferences, the interaction between the political context and the regional technological and knowledge development. I mainly implement quantitative techniques, such as econometric models, causal inference, network analysis and machine learning techniques.
